Fronté is a London-based womenswear brand established in 2016 by Jiyun Lapthorn.
Each Fronté piece is initially handmade by the designer and only small quantities produced in a sewing studio in London. Fronté lives through an ongoing lifelong search for creating your favourite clothes to keep, forever.
“I chose to slow down to make garments properly and inventively.
I am inspired by strong people who are independent thinkers and have an original vision. I like to make good tools for them. I make transformable useful clothes that are designed to be worn in multiple ways. Deceptively simple shapes are comfortable but not obvious and both practical and sensual.
Eventually, I like my clothes to become invisible to others but the wearer.
The purpose of my creation is making you feel confident and uplifted.”
– Jiyun Lapthorn – Designer & Founder
Jiyun Lapthorn graduated her M.A. with a distinction from London College of Fashion. Her first collection was shown at the V&A to an all-star crowd including Grayson Perry, Zandra Rhodes and Harold Tillman. She has since worked with Vivienne Westwood, Ossie Clark London, The Collection and Caroline Seikaly in Paris. With an extensive background in pattern cutting for haute couture and textile design, she sold designs to clients including Valentino and DKNY at exhibitions such as Premiere Vision, Como and Direction. Her work has been worn by Carmen Dell’Orefice and Sasha Pivovarova and featured in The Telegraph, Vogue and Italian Vogue.
“It’s amazing – to see these ideas and what they’re creating. There’s a real spark among them. It’s brilliant to support young talent. I was thinking what happens to the outfits now?” Roberts, hopeful and clearly impressed said after the show. “I really liked the feminine pieces, and in particular the Lapthorn dresses” – exquisite inky draped numbers from womenswear student, Jiyun Lapthorn.Vogue - Jessica Bumpus
I have always been interested in draping and the movement of human bodies.
